UNO Open House Invites Families to Navigate the Future of Tech

The traditional roadmap to a successful career is being rewritten in real-time. With artificial intelligence (AI), advanced engineering, and rapid technological shifts outpacing standard school curricula, learners and families are increasingly left asking a critical question: How do we leverage AI to get ahead in higher education and future workforce? To bridge this knowledge gap, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is hosting a series of Open House meetings designed to cut through the noise. Going beyond the standard college brochure, this upcoming event promises an “honest conversation” about the specific skills, degrees, and strategic decisions that will actually matter in the coming decade.
Slated for Sunday, February 8th at 4:00 PM inside the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, the session connected attendees directly with experts in Computer Science, Engineering, and cutting-edge research. While previous iterations of this event were restricted to adults, organizers have pivoted to explicitly welcome families to participate in these important discussions. This collaborative approach allows families to align their goals, discover untapped educational pathways, and get a realistic, unvarnished look at what it takes to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
As the digital horizon expands, simply hoping for the best is no longer a viable career strategy. Families and professionals looking to future-proof their educational investments and turn uncertainty into a concrete game plan are encouraged to attend this series of meetings. The event was well attended by families and professionals with a high level of engagement and lively discussions with the participants. Students interactions with the Reachy-mini humanoid robots was a highlight of this meeting.
